About

Catarina Sampaio is a communication designer.

Working in the independent film industry for more than 10 years now, she had the privilege of designing posters, packaging and websites for several films from established filmmakers, both Portuguese and international, such as David Cronenberg, Wim Wenders, Robert Schwentke, Andrzej Zulawski, Raúl Ruiz, Valeria Sarmiento, Fernando Lopes, José Fonseca e Costa, Bruno de Almeida, Hugo Vieira da Silva amongst many others.

Also she has an ongoing collaboration with Lisbon & Sintra Film Festival (LEFFEST) since it’s first edition in 2007, becoming responsible for it’s design department in 2009.

Before working in cinema, she worked as an art director in the advertising industry.

With experience in key art, packaging and digital design, she has keen eye for typography and strong concept ability. She is proficient in Photoshop (including photography retouch), Indesign and Illustrator.

Catarina holds a MA degree in Communication Design and New Media, a post-graduate degree in New Media and Web Practices, a degree in Graphic and Multimedia Design and studied Visual Arts in high school. She also has complementary training in Web Applications Programming, Creative Advertising and Digital Illustration.

In recent years, she has been developing design research that focuses on data portraits and on the exploration of creative approaches to the visualization of personal data, with a particular interest in visualization systems which are dynamic and therefore capable of producing real-time data portraits.
